Fit the file. Check the photo.
If an application asks for an image under 20KB, begin with the original photo and the preset below. The tool searches for a compact encoding and can shrink the picture when quality changes alone are insufficient. Your image stays in this browser. Nothing here determines whether a particular application will accept the photograph.
- Read the whole ruleCopy the allowed file type, minimum and maximum size, width and height from the form. A 20KB maximum alone is not a full photo specification.
- Choose a clean originalUse a well-lit photo with the framing already correct. Resizing preserves the existing composition; it does not crop a face into a required position.
- Compare before uploadingDownload the file, open it and inspect the subject at its final size. Then compare the displayed pixel dimensions with the destination’s requirements.
Why pixels and KB are separate checks
Pixel dimensions describe the image’s width and height. File size measures the encoded bytes. Two photos with identical dimensions can have different byte counts because their textures, detail and output settings differ. A busy background can need more space than a plain one, so a universal width or quality setting cannot guarantee a 20KB result.
This preset treats 20KB as 20,000 bytes. Some software uses KB to display 1,024-byte units, so the same download may show a slightly different number in a file manager. The exact byte count beside the download removes that ambiguity. The result is under the cap, not deliberately filled to its upper edge.
A form may reject a file that is too small or has the wrong dimensions even when it passes the maximum-size check. Follow the current form’s own instructions and keep the unedited photo as a backup. For a handwritten signature, use the dedicated signature page; if your field permits more space, the 30KB and 50KB presets leave more room for detail.

Other size presets.
Choose a target from the instructions on your current form. Passing a byte limit alone does not verify its format, dimension or content rules.
Good to know.
How do I resize an image to less than 20KB?
Upload the original, leave the target at 20KB, select an accepted output format and download the result. The tool uses a 20,000-byte cap and reports the exact size.
Does a 20KB file have a fixed width and height?
No. Byte count and pixel dimensions are different measurements. This tool may reduce dimensions to fit the budget, so compare the final width and height with your form.
Can this make a passport photo for any application?
It can reduce a photo’s file size. It does not verify official photo rules, crop requirements, identity or eligibility. Use the specifications supplied by the application you are completing.
